Originally from New Zealand and now residing in Warrandyte just north of Melbourne, Janette and Alan have many stories to tell about their very diverse, adventurous life. Their personal lifestyle throughout 40+ years of marriage and raising a family, having a successful business partnership, and extensive world travel, has always been centered around health and wellness and sharing their consciousness with others.
From sailing in their 40' sailboat with their two young children throughout New Zealand, the South Pacific and Papua New Guinea, to working their 400-ton freight boat on the inland waterways of Europe; from traveling in their converted bus from Holland to Portugal while home schooling their children, to residing on Vancouver Island Canada while their children went to University; and from operating a 100' hotel boat in France taking guests on health oriented canal cruises, to running the length of New Zealand with the support of their two (now adult) children, Janette and Alan enjoyed a physically active, healthy and conscious lifestyle throughout their traveling years with their family.
But the next chapter in their lives created the biggest challenge. At 52, Janette was diagnosed with breast cancer and the prognosis was only 6 months or possibly a year with conventional chemotherapy and radiation treatment. “Environmentally, my immune system had been compromised and to compromise it further didn't make sense to me,” says the ultra marathon runner, who knows the value of exercise and the benefits of a healthy diet. “I have always chosen to live a healthy natural and conscious lifestyle, never had a cold in my life and never taken so much as an aspirin. I chose to help my body heal itself of cancer, by boosting the immune system with the natural nutrients it needed and increasing the oxygen in the blood through exercise and juicing fresh fruits and vegetables. Now, I am living proof that the body is capable of healing itself.” The path that Janette took with the support of Alan and her family, resulted in an inevitable journey to a more healthy conscious living and the passion to share their (extensive) knowledge and experience with others.
They founded a Centre for Optimum Health in Canada, where their focus was on encouraging healthy conscious lifestyles through living nutrition and exercise for the mind, body and spirit. Their vision was to share their knowledge gained through their multitude of life experiences, and to encourage natural, healthy conscious lifestyles within their community. Janette and Alan established a highly successful Living Food & Conscious Lifestyle Course and have shared their secrets of good health through a series of inspirational presentations internationally during the past eight years. The response has been overwhelming with hundreds of people being encouraged to make their own informed choices with regard to diet, exercise and maintaining a healthy and conscious lifestyle. Many now attest to experiencing positive changes to their health and overall well being.
The dynamic duo's approach to healthy living is as simple and clear as nature itself. “Learning how to live a healthy conscious lifestyle with an emphasis on nutrition and exercise, gives people the possibility to prevent disease, or reverse health issues they may be struggling with - such as being overweight, having addictions ranging from sugar to smoking, and even problems as serious as diabetes and cancer,” says Alan.
“Education and learning is an all important factor in the growing process, both for individuals and for a community, and we believe healthy minds create a healthy community,” explains Janette, who speaks passionately about the healing properties of living foods and essential exercise, based on her own experience with cancer. “I share the story of my journey with cancer and the knowledge I have gained along the way, so that others may have the opportunity to make informed conscious choices themselves,” she says.
“People would ask us how we could work long hours, after running 15km to the Centre from home, and never seem to tire or get sick,” says Alan, who fifteen years ago was a 2-pack-a-day smoker and weighed close to 200lbs. “I used to get several colds a year and always felt tired,” he recalls. “When I changed my eating habits, stopped smoking and started exercising, I completely turned my life around. In the space of one year, I went from being unable to run one city block to completing my first marathon (42km), and I haven’t been sick since.”
Both Janette and Alan have participated in many international marathons and ultra runs, and to celebrate the year 2000 and Janette’s 50th year, they ran the length of NZ covering 2182km running 50 marathons in 50 consecutive days! The amazing thing to most people is that their main source of energy comes from fresh raw organic fruit and vegetables, raw juices, juiced wheatgrass and green smoothies!
“Following our Rawsome Living Food & Conscious Lifestyle Program has made a huge difference in my life,” Alan adds. “I was overweight, was often sick and had little or no energy. Now I feel twenty years younger than my 60+ years, I lost 70lbs, and my energy level has increased so that I can actually run faster now than when I was in my twenties! Various fad diets come and go, but they don’t work and some are even quite dangerous. Our Personalized Programs offer information that is a safe, sure way to get back on track with your health and ensures a happy, healthy conscious lifestyle. Everyone can benefit from learning how to take control of their own health and therefore feel good about themselves. It is immensely gratifying to see how even small changes can make such a difference in one’s life and having the right information empowers one to make conscious life choices. "
